I don't know about the rest of you guys, but I really like showing off my bike. I'm proud of it. I like riding it, and dammit I think it looks good. For all you fixed-gear people out there the Fixed Gear Gallery is a great place to do it. There's some sweet-ass bikes on there, and no doubt it's a popular place. But I bet most of you haven't heard of the Unreal Cycles gallery! Probably not. Right now my bike is the only fixed gear on there, and dammit it's feeling lonely. Anyone want to setup a quick accound and give it some company? There needs to be more fixed gears in the gallery because we're all about the integration of different types of bikes!

It's easy to set up an account, and upload pictures of your own bikes and whatnot. From there you can rate bikes and check out people's sweet-ass gear. Let's show those guys some fixie pride.

My weekend: A list.

A brief list of my 4th of July weekend highlights:
1) Went camping, anf took a 12 mile hike (3000' elevation gain) up to a high mountain lake.
2) Went to a downhill mountain bike park and progressed from doing a run with two 5' drops to a run with a 7' drop.
5) Joined friend's at a BBQ in Capitol Hill. Later moved a large portion of those people back to my apartment for an afterparty that lasted until 4:30 AM.
4) Was driving a friend's car and came upon a police speed trap that had multiple officers on a bridge with radar guns and 30-40 motorcycle police behind the bridge pulling over every speeding car. I saw it too late to realize what was going on and sped through it. I did not get pulled over.
5) Was driving down the same street less than an hour later and had to hit my brakes to avoid hitting a man who lept out in front of my car. He was, in turn, avoiding being hit by the man firing a pistol at him from the sidewalk. This happened 30' in front of me and I had to pass in between the shooter and his target before i could round the corner and call the police. I was unhurt, and so was the car.
6) 4th of July BBQ at my apartment.
6a) Watched the bushes burning at an apartment complex 1 block away (caused by fireworks).
6b) Took polaroids of the car which parked too close to the curb that the ensuing firetruck turned at directly beneath my deck. The firetruck tore the front end completely off the car. The owners felt the fire dept was in the wrong...
6c) Sent people down the street (1 block the opposite direction from the fire) to check on a pedestrian who had been pinned (see "crushed") in between a parked car and a moving car. 911 was called, the ambulance arrived, and the victim had been driven to the hospital in a car. The paramedics were angry about the wasted trip.
6d) Watched the fireworks above Lake Union.
6e) BBQ turned into a dance party that lasted until roughly 2:00 AM. I shook my groove thang. Daniel, Irene and Rachel shook their's so much better...
6f) Nearly everyone left, and then some bad things happened (not to me directly). Can't give details. I got just short of 2 hours of sleep.

And now I'm back at work.

And how was your weekend?

Sweet sweet skateboarding

Yesterday I went skateboarding for the first time in years. I know, it's so juvenile of me to push about on a skateboard, but god dammit it was awesome. I've forgotten just how much fun it is. I was given a fun box on Saturday night at my friend's moving-away party. Daniel came by last night when I got off work and we sessioned the box for several hours. Neither of us are any good, but I have a decent ollie, and Daniel can do handstands like a madman. Basically I used to live for skateboarding and then my ex made me quit. Thus I got into biking. But now that I've tasted the sweet naughty nectar of skating my summer has taken an all new twist. And it's going to be one fucking fun summer indeed. Evidently putting tons of miles on a bike aids one's skating abilities too. Sweet!

I should also note that the same friend who generously gave me the fun box also gave me a brand new Lib Tech skate deck too (still in the plastic!). While I don't need it yet, I look forward to using it! I seriously owe the guy now. Seriously...

So a few years ago I took a long motorcycle trip with my dad through the backwoods of British Columbia, Canada. While I was there I took notes and kept a journal of sorts, and snapped a bunch of photos to boot. After spending forever and a day convincing an ex of mine to transcribe it for me (by the way, thanks for that. If you ever read this...) with the intentions of putting it online. Well now it's finally up for everyone to read about and enjoy. I realize now that the writing in it is pretty horrific, but at least the photos are good. Maybe I'll continue to add to it with stories of some of my other trips as time goes on.

Read about it all here: Ryder's Travels

Here's a site to check out for anyone who has been involved in any sort of bike accident in the Seattle-area. A group of Seattle-area cyclists are doing research and analysis. Whether the accident was caused by poor street conditions, or a car/driver, they want to hear about it. Take a second to fill out the form, and spread the word.

GhostCycle.org

FUCK KEXP!

I have been in love with KEXP since moving to Seattle. But right now I say fuck them. I fucking hate them. Ever since this shithole band, MIA, came onto the scene that's all that KEXP plays! OK, I know it's unreasonable for me to say that's "all" that they play, but if you listen (which i don't reccomend that anyone do anymore) you'll hear they play that crap 5-10 times every hour all day long. Most times they even play two songs back to back. If i wanted to hear that much of that fucking shitty ass band (which i don't) I'd buy their damn CD (which i wont). They're like a female Wesely Willis, only without talent. Just lots of drumming and unintelligible screaming.

Thanks for ruining a good thing ASSHATS!

Fuck MIA.
And FUCK KEXP.
